DESADV: a new GALIA message profile integrating packaging elements

In June 2019, the publication of the Odette packaging management standards is the result of three years of work.  During this period, the automotive industry described the standard functional processes and defined the set of new EDI messages in order to automate the associated information exchange.
The prospect of greater automation in packaging management pushed many international players in the automotive industry to get involved in the project.
This new standardization opens up the possibility for players from the sector to solve problems with very strong economic stakes.

RENAULT and PSA have confirmed their interest to implement the integration of all packaging elements as a priority (eg: pallets, covers, dividers, empty wedges boxes and accessories, etc.) in the parts dispatch notice (DESADV D96A ).

Why a new AVIEXP / DESADV D96A message profile?
This new version of the AVIEXP V5.3 GALIA profile represents an evolution of the current AVIEXP V5.2 profile for parts (DESADV D96A). In addition to the description of the parts, this new profile allows to convey all the sustainable packaging elements: pallets, covers, dividers, packaging (full and empty wedges) and all accessories.

Important:

  • The message content and structure as currently used in version 5.2 do not change (in other words, CPS (1) loops are not impacted so as not to disrupt parts supplies).
  • Disposable packaging (boxes, etc.) are not managed and therefore should not be transmitted.

How to integrate all the sustainable packaging elements into the AVIEXP / DESADV D96A message?
All the returnable packaging and accessories of a shipment are transmitted into a new CPS (3 outer) block at the end of the message, after the CPS (1 inner).
The returnable packaging elements transmitted represent a complete overview of all packaging whether full or empty, as well as accessories.

This profile allows two use cases for more flexibility:

  • Use case WITHOUT linked to the UM:
    • This is to list the number of empty packaging and sustainable accessories by type for the entire shipment.
    • Management rules :
    – One CPS loop (3) per shipment
    – Full summary view
    – In case of UMS, reminder of the type of CPU = UMS type in the CPS loop (3)
  • Use case WITH junction to the UM:
    • This is to list the number of empty packaging and sustainable accessories by type for each MU sent in a shipment.
    • Management rules :
    – One CPS (3) loop per UM
    – Generate the UM number under the last PAC of the CPS loop (3)
    – In case of UMS:
    > Reminder of the type of CPU = UMS type in the CPS loop (3)
    > UM # = CU #

In January 2020, the GALIA “Packaging management messages” Working Group validated the new GALIA profile of the DESADV message integrating the packaging elements in order to allow automated management.

The implementation guideline of this new profile is now available on the GALIA website: click here
This validation allows members from the sector to organize the implementations that will take place from the 3rd quarter of 2020.
The new version of the DESADV message requires studying the changes and impacts to be implemented on the GALIA Delivery Note (Standard IAE3 V3R0 – DESADV paper image) and it will be processed within a new working group.
Subsequently, the GALIA work will continue with the messages implementation regarding the managing empty packaging returns and there are also real challenges.
