4th workshop of the “Demand & Capacity Management” working group

15/11/2024

Logistics

Let’s recall that this working group was launched in early 2024 with the aim to improve practices concerning forecasts and data management of capacity constraints. The objective is to enable “manufacturable” forecasts in a tight economic context, by synchronising supply chains tiers.

We have identified a dozen work themes that we have advanced through 9 web conferences and 4 face-to-face workshops, the last of which was held on Tuesday, November 5. This is therefore a major effort to improve our “collaborative forecasting”.

Among the current topics, we can mention:

  • An analysis of the standard “Catena-X DCM use case”. This sharing allowed us to better understand the proposed functionalities. We will soon do our summary of them.
  • A work on the measurement of forecasting performance. We have taken up the “Odette Forecast Accuracy Indicator” standard. We are sharing simplified applications, which could become the subject of a future proposal.
  • Benchmarking time amongst the members of the working group, providing an opportunity to discuss the Want2Be of some.
  • Redaction of fundamental principles, which detail what can be expected from the different forecast horizons.

The group will continue this work in 2025. It will be a case of formulating structured proposals to improve the forecasting method. But with this complex subject, it is also about providing rules and recipes that aim to change the mindset of collaboration between the supply chain partners.
